Fell Walking

Cadair Idris Summit This is me at the summit of Cadair Idris having just come up the grade 3S scramble of the Cyfrwy Arete which can be seen in the background. The direct route along the spine of the arete proved a little too exposed for me and part way up I deviated and took a slightly less airy line. Nancy boy!

The Cannon on Tryfan This is The Cannon a rock formation on the North Ridge of Tryfan (pronounced Travan) one of the mountains that comprise the Carneddau (pronounced Carnethy) in Snowdonia. It's de rigeur to pose for this photograph when you are climbing the North Face.

Jack's rake on Pavey Ark Approaching the top of Pavey Ark by the route up Jack's Rake which accoding to Wainwright is a rock climb but is actually a Grade 1 Scramble.

Glyer Fawr under snow Napes Needle on Great Gable is generally accepted as where modern rock climbing began in the 19th century. It is a spectacular rock formation jutting from the side of the mountain overlooking Wasdale. On the day in question we, gentlemen that we are, allowed these two climbers to go before us. They rewarded us by getting their rope caught on a flake and took two hours to complete the climb by which time we were chilled to the bone and a fog had come down. Bastards!

No Text This is April would you believe on or near (in those conditions it's not always possible to tell) the summit of Glyder Fawr. The view is westward looking down the Gwynant Valley towrds Cardigan Bay.
